Moose Knows: When Servo and the gym aren’t mad houses

By Arman Walia
Why is it so packed? Why are there so many people? When should we go? Do you always feel like you go to the gym or servo at the wrong times? If you ever wonder about any of these questions, I am going to give you the real answers. Servo is sometimes a hit or miss. Breakfast is always going to be packed because most people with early classes, want early classes (unless you fit the description of a second semester senior taking Biology). Therefore, they will go to breakfast early to start the day. Nevertheless, you will usually find a seat. Lunch; never go between the hours of 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM. You will not find a seat and walk around with a full tray like “you’re looking for someone” (we’ve all been there). Dinner, it usually gets packed around 6:00 PM  to 6:30 PM, so if want to be the person that keeps refilling their drinks to pass time, do not go at this hour. Now for the gym. The athletic center is mainly packed between the hours of 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. If you don’t want to pretend like your stretching for 20 minutes while waiting for a machine, don’t go at this time. If you follow all of these rules daily, I guarantee your life will run a little bit smoother.
When things aren’t right, go left.

  1. So when should you go to all these things? You essentially wrote an article saying don’t go to certain places at peak times. Can you provide any further advice as to when to go to dinner at servo or are you merely saying don’t go between 6 and 6:30 (which isn’t a natural eating time anyways). This article would be helpful if it offered alternative times to show up. However, the reason people go to the College facilities at these times is because that’s when they are open, that’s when it is convenient, and that’s when students don’t have classes. There’s no mystery to why the Gym or Servo is packed. The reason is that classes, dining hours, and sports are scheduled within the hours we refer to as day – time. Nobody schedules a class practice or meal at a time that is totally inconvenient to those participating. No one would schedule breakfast at 9:44am when people are in class and do not want breakfast. This could go on, however, Roadhouse is on HBO and Pat Swayze doesn’t wait for anybody.

    • I thought this was a great article! When reading these, please keep in mind this is just a college advice column: it is not life or death. There is no need to be so rude/have a negative tone. Perhaps some individuals were unaware of the peak times at the gym and Servo, in which case this article is extremely helpful. Yes, the gym is open during the hours of 4-6pm, however, it is also open in the morning, early afternoon and evening. Those are all perfect times to work out. To be completely honest, if you want to make the most of your college experience: wake up at 7am and eat breakfast, work out, go to class, study and then socialize. You can throw in some meals around 1pm and 7pm – snacks will help you make it through the day! Hope this helps and hope you enjoyed watching Roadhouse at 6:45am! 😉

  2. Suuuuuure, you’re awake at 6:45, you clearly have plenty of time to eat and go to the gym, YOU’RE hours of ‘daytime’ are significantly different than the ‘we’ that you refer to. If this truly bothers you, you can go find the writer and discuss further how to write a more informative article.
