Bullet Shot: Athlete of the Week
Cassie Smith and the rest of the Bullets defense have led the women’s lacrosse team to 8-1 record.

The Gettysburg women’s lacrosse team is in the midst of a successful season and on a quest to playoffs. The Bullets currently hold a record of 8 to 1 with their only loss being in overtime to third ranked TCNJ in March. A large part of the Bullets’ success comes from their defense, and none other that this week’s Athlete of the Week, sophomore defender Cassie Smith.
Smith has played in eight of Gettysburg’s nine games this season and has helped the Bullets hold their opponents to only 55 goals against. The Bullets currently outscore their opponents 95-55, and are ranked sixth in the nation for the third consecutive week.
Smith said that the key to the girl’s success is their family mentality, and overall drive. She said, “I am so excited to continue seeing us play with a family mentality, playing for each other and
working hard for each other. One of our Captains, Tina Wright, word for the season is ‘LOVE’. We play for the love of the game and for the love of each other and I am excited to see that
‘LOVE’ stays present in all that we do.” This love for the game and each other has proven to be the Bullets key to abundant success this season.
Cassie and her teammates are looking forward to a successful second half of the season starting with their a contest against Swarthmore on Saturday.
Cassie said, “The Gettysburg women’s lacrosse team is a team made up of incredibly hard working women who never stop trying and always give their best. I am so proud to be able to play with all of these women and call them my teammates. We are all looking forward to playing the rest of the season and going out there and just doing what we do best–shutting teams down, posting up big scores, and winning.”
