On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Gettysburg women’s volleyball team faced defeat against the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays at their game in Baltimore, making for the team’s second loss of the season. The Bullets trailed most of the game, finishing at a 0-3 loss at the end of three sets.

The Blue Jay’s miscommunication led to the Bullets receiving many points benefiting from their errors, but it wasn’t enough to put them in the lead, as the Johns Hopkins offense was strong throughout the match.

Outside hitter Alycen Radolovic ’26 and outside/opposite side hitter Clare Farrell ’28 led the Bullets in kills with four each. Setter Sophie Nasir ’25 led in aces, contributing two, and middle hitter Mary Huegel ’26 and Farrell led the school in blocks with three each. Despite these numbers, the Bullets could not stop the Blue Jays defensively, and Johns Hopkins pulled away with major leads in the first (9-25) and third (11-24) sets.

Although this was not the Bullets’ best performance of the season, they still have an impressive record of 15-2 and a conference record of 1-1. Throughout this season, Gettysburg has racked up significantly more kills and digs than their opponents and just came off a seven-game winning streak.

Radolovic leads the Bullets in kills this season with an impressive total of 178. Nala Shearer ’28 boasts 208 digs and Setter Kendall Erpenbeck ’26 has a record of 259 assists this fall. Blocks have also been a huge component of the Bullets’ game, and Huegel leads the team with 72.

Gettysburg’s team this season is surprisingly young, with half of it consisting of first-year students. Nonetheless, the class of 2028 is making itself known, and this team is fifth overall in the Centennial Conference this season.

Volleyball continues their season at Haverford on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 pm.
