Last week, the Garthwait Leadership Center hosted its “Pre-Loved Outdoor Gear Sale” on Stine Lake, selling its used equipment at a fraction of the original cost.
The GLC is a leadership-focused organization that seeks to help Gettysburg students and alumni “recognize their potential as leaders and their responsibility to serve,” according to their webpage. The GLC offers a plethora of leadership experiences for students, many of which are outdoors. Offerings include hiking and camping trips, team-building activities and leadership development workshops.
Saiman Adhikari ’26, who works as a leadership educator for the GLC, said that the “goal was to make outdoor experiences more accessible to the community by providing essential items like backpacks, sleeping bags and stoves at much lower prices compared to current retail rates.”
Adhikari added, “This initiative not only helps reduce waste by keeping gear out of landfills but also directly supports the GLC’s mission. All proceeds from the sale go toward funding GLC programs, ensuring that outdoor trips remain free for Gettysburg College students and further promoting inclusivity and access to nature.”
The event reflects the GLC’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement. By offering affordable outdoor equipment, the sale encouraged students and community members to connect with nature while supporting the center’s ongoing programs.
