RSL Holds Spring Break Trips for Students Staying On-Campus

Over Spring Break, the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life (RSL) held two off-campus trips each weekend. The first was the 24-Hour Mindfulness Retreat on March 3 and 4, and the second was to Washington, D.C. on March 11.
“The goal of us taking these trips around Spring Break is to give students who otherwise would not have an opportunity to visit home and family to have an enriching opportunity to get away from campus and experiences and build community,” Director of Religious and Spiritual Life and College Chaplain Bright said.
According to Bright, both of these trips were offered for free to students who signed up.
The Mindfulness Retreat took place at Camp Nawaka in Biglerville, where students disconnected from technology for 24 hours and participated in a variety of activities such as board games, journaling, going on walks, mindful tasting, a ropes course and relaxation.
A student who went on the trip, Dan Thanh “Senthy” Nguyen said,“My friends and I also spent a whole night talking with Chaplain Bright. I’d say that it’s nice to have a few friends accompany you on the trip, but also enjoy the company of other students. It’s great to be close with people without having technology around.”
The Washington, D.C. trip centered around visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Masjid Muhammad, which has been called “The Nation’s Mosque” and serves thousands of Muslim people living in the D.C. area.
Senthy also went on this trip, and wished she had the time to return to see the museum again. “I really liked the experience I had at National Museum of African American History and Culture. There’s a huge exhibition about history and African Americans in the basement of the museum,” remarked Senthy.
RSL has several upcoming events, including their regular staff meditations, Candlelight Prayer Services on Wednesdays, Sunday Quaker Meetings, and a Saturday evening worship on April 1.
