American Cancer Society and Relay for Life Host Pink Party

On Thursday, Oct. 20, the American Cancer Society on campus hosted its annual Pink Party registration event for Gettysburg College’s Relay for Life on Stine Lake from 6 to 9 p.m.
The event included music and food, in addition to activities, but it also showed ways to donate to the cause. At this event, students were also able to register for the Relay for Life event so they can help to raise money throughout the year.
Contrary to popular belief, the organizers stated that there are more ways one can raise money for Relay for Life besides walking around a track. Many groups around campus, such as the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon, set up events to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Last week, Sigma Alpha Epsilon hosted their “Shave-A-Thon,” event where people could donate money to shave or dye the hair of the members of several campus organizations.
Relay for Life Co-President Caden Simmons ’24 said Relay for Life is “kind of like a relay for money. So you try to raise as much money through the year […] and at the end of the year we have a celebration of life. We have a bunch of survivors come and it’s a lot of fun.”
“We are extremely happy to announce that in just over a month we’ve been able to raise about $7,800,” added Co-President Nicole Cesanek ’23. “I really believe we’re going to make some great contributions this year for the American Cancer Society.”
This year-long period of donations will culminate on April 1, when the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life will host their Relay for Life event. Survivors, families of survivors, and others will come to celebrate the donations that Gettysburg College students raised through events like the Pink Party.
