COVID-19 Update: College Ends Requirements for Masking in Residence Halls and Weekly Testing

By Laken Franchetti, Assistant News Editor

After the third week of classes, the college has confirmed 58 new cases out of 1,616 tests conducted within the student body.  7 positive cases out of 219 were found among employees.  The college believes that positivity rates are on a steady decline, and the majority of students who tested positive for COVID-19 were asymptomatic.  For these reasons, COVID protocols have been adjusted.

An email was sent out to the campus community on Wednesday morning to announce that the all-student testing period has now concluded, and beginning Monday, Feb. 14, testing is no longer required for fully-vaccinated students.  Students who are not fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption will need to continue to test for COVID-19 weekly.  Students who no are no longer required to test have the option to continue testing during their assigned time.  Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days do not have to participate in testing.

Masking is no longer required in residence halls yet remains required in all other indoor locations.  The college states that they will continue to evaluate the masking policy in the coming weeks.
