Bullet Shot: Athlete of the Week
By Elizabeth Hilfrank, Staff Writer
Sophomore Savannah Llewellyn continues to make waves in the Gettysburg pool with wins in nearly every swim competition this season.
Llewellyn has helped the Gettysburg Women’s swim team win five out of their six meets.
She contributed to a win in the 200-meter free relay against Bryn-Mawr College, won both the 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter butterfly against Washington College and won the 200-meter butterfly against Messiah College, just to name a few.
Although Llewellyn is a school record holder in the 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter and 400-meter relays, she stays humble and remembers that swimming is more than an individual sport.
“Points in a meet are won individually but we need each other as a team for encouragement and support,” said Llewellyn. “Without the girls that I swim with I wouldn’t have the right attitude to be as strong as I am now.”
Llewellyn contributes more than physical ability to the team.
“Savannah is an awesome teammate to be around and brings such a great vibe to our team,” said sophomore swimmer Nicole Farina. “She always races so hard, and never overthinks or talks negatively before her race, she just gets up and does it.”
Llewellyn currently holds top times in the Centennial Conference in the 50-meter freestyle (46th), 100-meter backstroke (9th), 100-meter fly (4th) and 200-meter fly (8th).
With much success her first year on the team and a strong start to her second season, one can expect more great performances to come from Llewellyn and the lady Bullets.
“What they don’t tell you is that swimming is mostly about mental toughness,” said Llewellyn. “We train together, we hurt together, and we will win together.”
Congratulations to Llewellyn for being this week’s Bullet of the Week.
