Bullets football claims victory against Juniata
By Sara Laughna, Contributing Writer
It took Juniata College less than six minutes to score on their first possession of the game, but from that point on it was all Gettysburg as the Bullets ended Saturday with a 28-7 win.
Senior Kody Smith led the Bullets, throwing for one touchdown and rushing for another two. Smith went 11 for 18 on pass attempts for the day. Senior Ted Delia led the team in rushing with 68 yards and one touchdown.
Due to Gettysburg’s strong defense, Juniata was only able to enter the red zone once more during the game after their first touchdown. Juniata quarterback Ward Udinski passed 29 for 47 and rushed 51 yards, but it was not enough to get past Gettysburg.
Juniata threatened to score again as Udinski was able to lead his offense down to Gettysburg’s eight yard line, only to have kicker Scott Andrews miss the field goal attempt.
Gettysburg was not able to score until the 6:33 mark in the second quarter. Smith made a one-yard run into the end zone to even the score. Smith marched the Gettysburg offense down the field on their next two possessions to add two more touchdowns to board.
Juniata began the fourth quarter with the ball, but was unable to put up any points as they turned the ball over on downs. Delia put up the final touchdown of the game for Gettysburg with 11:05 left in the fourth quarter.
Gettysburg players are thinking positively about the rest of the season as the team sits atop the conference standings.
“The underclassmen have made a strong impact coming into camp in great shape and really diving headfirst into their playbooks,” said Senior defensive end Chris Nolan. “The upperclassmen have been true leaders on and off the field by showing the younger guys the way we do things here.”
Gettysburg (3-0, 2-0 CC) travels to Susquehanna University for a 1 p.m. matchup this Saturday.
