On Saturday the Gettysburg women’s swim team took home their second win of the season against the Washington College Shorewomen in a 164- 98 defeat. The Bullets captured 9outof14oftheeventsinthe 164-98 win, improving their in- conference and overall season standing to 2-0.

Senior captain Haley Weaver and sophomore Caroline Moyer led the Bullets each with three event wins. Moyer placed first in the 100- breaststroke (1:08.76), the 200-breaststoke (2:31.25) and helped capture the 200-medly relay with Weaver, sophomore Sydney Boswell and freshman Savannah Llewllyn.

Weaver won the 100-free- style (55.46) and the 200-freestyles (2.00.69). Weaver has started off her season on an extremely high note, winning all four of her individual events and both relays in the first two meets to begin the season. This past Monday she was announced as Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Week.

“It’s a great honor to win this accolade.” Weaver commented, “The conference is extremely competitive this year with a lot of talented swimmers, so I feel humbled and excited to have been selected for it. My teammate Mike Harmon was chosen for the men’s weekly athlete, so I am especially happy to share it with him.”

Gettysburg dominated the butterfly events, placing a first, second, and third place sweep on both the 100 and 200 fly. In the 100-fly, Llewllyn came in first (1.00.77), with Boswell right behind her at (1:02.70) and freshman Nicole Farina in third (1:04.50).

Between her place on the 200-medley relay and the 100-fly, Llewllyn has already made her mark on the team to begin her college swimming career.

“Going into my first college meets I was very nervous,” commented Llewllyn. “I wanted to prove to my team, my parents, my coaches and myself that I could handle the competition. I was very happy with my performance in the 100 fly on Saturday. I felt like I had an important place on the team.”

Nicole Farina was another first-year to demonstrate the fresh talent, taking first place in the 200-fly in a time of (1:04.50).

Junior Sam Evangelista was right behind her in 2:21.74 and sophomore Elizabeth Butler took home third in 2:24.77.

Butler also captured first place in the 500-freestyle (5:31.78) and sophomore Maddie Tulp dominated the 200-back- stroke finishing first with a time of 2:14.07.

Llewllyn is very optimistic about the potential the Bullets have for the rest of the season. “Swimming is a big mental sport. Y our body has done the work and the training and sometimes the only thing holding you back is your state of mind. But as my team and I continue to work hard this season I expect great swims, great competition, and great times with my favorite team.”

The lone captain is also very confident about her team’s success for the 2014-2015 season. “Every girl on the team is strong, positive, and capable of making this season extremely successful. We’ll have some tough competition this year, and I wouldn’t want to face it with any other team.”

On Saturday, the Bullets will take on Messiah College and Susquehanna University in their first out of conference meet in their home pool. Races begin at 1:00 p.m.
