February 6, 2018

  • Harrassment: Intimidation in an on-campus residential facility, an incident that occurred on January 26; the incident was classified as a hate crime and remains open and under investigation by the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

February 8, 2018

  • Fire at College Apartments; it was an accidental cooking fire in a toaster oven. The incident is closed.
  • Drug Abuse Violation: Possession of Marijuana & Other Drug Paraphernalia; the incident was referred to the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities (SRR).

February 10, 2018

  • Liquor Law Violation: Underage consumption in Patrick Hall; the incident was referred to SRR.
  • Assault (Not Aggravated) & Harassment / Liquor Laws: Underage Consumption & Possession & False Identification; the incident was referred to Gettysburg Borough Police (GPD) and is pending citation.
  • Drug Abuse Violation: Possession of Marijuana / Liquor Laws: Underage Possession and Consumption at Phi Gamma Delta; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.

February 12, 2018

  • Driving Under the Influence & Drug Abuse Violation: Possession of a controlled substance; GPD arrested Nicholas Ramirez of Stanhope, New Jersey.
  • Two Sex Offenses – Rape were reported by campus security authorities; the incidents occurred between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15, 2017; both cases are closed.

February 15, 2018

  • Liquor Law Violation & False Identification Card at the south exterior of Stevens Hall; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.
  • Sex Offense: Rape & Violation of Liquor Laws: Underage Consumption at a college-recognized residential facility; the incident, which occurred Feb. 10-11, was referred to the Title IX office.
  • Drug Abuse Violation: Possession of Marijuana & Other Drug Paraphernalia & Liquor Laws Violation: Underage Consumption at Patrick Hall; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.

February 16, 2018

  • Disorderly Conduct & General Threat Posted on Social Media at Sigma Chi; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.

February 17, 2018

  • Disorderly Conduct: Urinating in Public & Liquor Law Violation: Underage Consumption outside Brua Hall; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.
  • Liquor Law Violation: Underage consumption in Hanson Hall; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.
  • Liquor Law Violation: Underage possession in Paul Hall; the incident is closed and was referred to SRR.

February 18, 2018

  • Vandalism & Larceny: Theft from coin-operated device; the incident is closed as there were no suspects or witnesses.

February 19, 2018

  • Fraud: Computer scam in Paul Hall; the incident is closed as there were no identifiable suspects.

Benjamin Pontz '20 served as Editor-in-Chief of The Gettysburgian from 2018 until 2020, Managing News Editor from 2017 until 2018, News Editor in the spring of 2017, and Staff Writer during the fall of 2016. During his tenure, he wrote 232 articles. He led teams that won two first place Keystone Press Awards for ongoing news coverage (once of Bob Garthwait's resignation, and the other of Robert Spencer's visit to campus) and was part of the team that wrote a first-place trio of editorials in 2018. He also received recognition for a music review he wrote in 2019. A political science and public policy major with a music minor, he graduated in May of 2020 and will pursue a master's degree in public policy on a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Manchester before enrolling in law school.
