The Senate sped through their meeting on Monday, November 6, making short work of the three budgets up for approval.

Outerspace received $175.76 as a reimbursement for products bought for its Genderbender event, held the previous Friday. A representative assured the Senate that all purchases had been necessary and noted that many of the materials for the event had been donated by local vendors.

College Democrats received $2,000.00 to bring Amanda Litman to campus for an address on political participation. Litman is the co-founder of “Run for Something,” a political activist group that encourages young people to run for office particularly in down-ballot races in their communities. The club representative informed Senate that this was a negotiated figure, stating that the original quote had been $5,000.

Finally, Young Americans for Freedom’s $3,087.00 budget request was approved to bring Bay Buchanan, a conservative political commentator, former Treasurer of the United States, and sister of Pat Buchanan, to campus, in what they described as an effort to “further the dialogue that the College Democrats began with their pro-choice speaker earlier in the semester.”

The meeting adjourned well before its scheduled 8:00 p.m. finish, something that had been unusual in recent weeks prior.
