Bullet Shot: Athlete of the Week

When an athlete starts their collegiate season off on a good note it bodes well for their whole season. This is exactly what junior wrestling captain Camden Stoops has done and there is no telling what he will accomplish this season.
“The highlight of my season so far has been getting off to the best start of my college career,” said Stoops.
Stoops leads all Gettysburg College wrestlers with a 10-4 record and has contributed to the successes of the wrestling team this season. He even recorded an individual third place finish at the Ursinus Fall Brawl.
Most recently, the Gettysburg College wrestling team competed in the McDaniel College Duals where Stoops once again added to his season with a 4-0 win as a heavyweight, which helped the Bullets defeat a tough Penn State Mont Alto team (30-12). Stoops had a quick pin in the first period leading to his victory during the tournament.
Stoops has been using his size and weight to propel his reputation and help win matches this season. This was evident during a first period pin against a wrestler from Elizabethtown College a couple weeks ago where he clearly had the edge in weight. He has had the size advantage on a lot of his opponents, but he has also sought improvement in another area of his game.
“Last year I was not scoring as much on top as I would have liked,” said Stoops. “I’ve been working on my turns and have been more successful with riding and turning my opponents so far this year.”
Stoops has been a leader as a junior as the team has a very small senior class and a winner on the mat as his dominant record tells. For his impressive start to the season, Camden Stoops is this week’s “Bullet of the Week.”
