Katherine Gilbert, sophomore, is one of the key contributors from last season’s Gettysburg College volleyball team to return with thunder this season. After a tough loss to Swarthmore in three sets this past Saturday, the team needed to rebound in their next game versus Dickinson. On Wednesday the Bullets made their comeback with the help of another consistent performance from Gilbert.

“We knew we had to the ability to beat Dickinson. We just needed to focus and execute our skills properly,” said Gilbert.

Gilbert finished the match with a high of 13 digs. This extended her total to 353 digs for the season and pushed her to the top of the team’s leaderboard. This also helped the Gettysburg College volleyball team bounce back from a first set loss to Dickinson and continue on to win the final three sets.

“Swarthmore was a tough loss and the team really needed a win to boost our confidence,” said Gilbert.

She commands the backline with confidence as a defensive specialist and contributes not only with her digs but her powerful serve as well. She did not record any aces this past match, but she still continues to lead the team with 43 aces.

Last season Gilbert showed her durability by playing in all thirty matches, improving her skills at every opportunity. Gilbert has continued this trend so far this season by hitting the court in all twenty-one of the team’s matches this season.

For her consistency and durability, Katherine Gilbert has earned the honor of being this week’s “Bullet of the Week.”
